What Viewers Thought of the first Survivor China Show
“Its a sad but revealing commentary on the american/western culture that the elder of the group is banished at the first council in a region of the world where age and experience are revered. It will be very interesting to see if any of the same group survive until the final 3 or 4 and more interesting is that the one who professed to be proud of her chinese heritage was one of the contributors. A sad commentary.
I am very interested now in seeing just how long Ms. New York waitress will last.
Love the show, it is a very revealing window into the heart of our often sad culture“ -Randy

“What a waste, every season you choose one or two older players and it never seems to matter that they are the hardest workers and will benefit the teams, the young “bums” always vote them off. The Biggest Loosers on TV are the youth on Survivor who think they are all that. How about a survivor of only 45+. You may have to loose out on the boobs and abs, but you would get inteligence, wisdom, and realy stratagy for the exchange.“ - DJ

I disagree. I think you are taking the mumbling hilly billy from Virgina’s booting off way too seriously. It was quite obvious the guy was about as useful as a wet sock on a rainy day in China.
I do agree with you about Mrs Thang. The stupid broad from New York who seems to think everybody thinks and acts like her.
She will not last long.
September 21st, 2007 at 4:06 amChicken may not have been the “coolest” guy on the show, but I think he probably knows more about surviving in the wilderness than any of the other team members. How sad that Ashley remains and Chicken was sent home. My guess is that they will regret the decision to vote Chicken off. If I were on the show, I’d definitely want Chicken on my team! So sorry, Chicken!
September 21st, 2007 at 5:39 amRandy, quite a number of older contestants have gotten quite far over the seasons on Survivor. Chicken would have been good to keep around, but he was acting bizarre and I think the tribe probably felt Ashley would be a great tribe member once she was well. Miss Chinese Heritage needs an attitude adjustment. Would have been ironic for the only Chinese-American to get voted off first in China.
September 21st, 2007 at 12:46 pmAlso, I did understand Ms. Christian Radio’s bowing out of the welcoming ceremony. It did seem a bit like worship and I certainly wouldn’t hold it against her.
I’m looking forward to another great season!
Voting Chicken off had nothing to do with age; it was him…hands down. Chicken was worthless, the other members asked for his help and if he had this wealth of knowledge and experience he should have stepped up. Voting him off was the appropriate choice. Ashley was sick and physically she will help the team win challenges in the future. You don’t vote off strong players in the beginning. The appropriate strategy is to vote for those that will distract the team and/ or cause conflict.
This episode was disturbing in many levels. I am ashamed with how some of the players behaved in a foreign land, which such little regard to the history and culture of China.
Miss little New York needs an attitude adjustment. Her flagrant disrespect of others and the Chinese culture, especially in the host country as a guest was shameful. Her behavior at the ceremony, the constant eye rolling and nasty disposition was inexcusable.
As for Miss Christian Radio, it was very, very disrespectful to leave during the ceremony. I cannot emphasize this enough. This was a unique cultural experience and a welcome ceremony. It is part of the culture to bow, as a sign of respect and it has nothing to do with believing in Buddha. Her behavior portrays the closed mindedness of Americans which is why so many countries refer to Americans as ugly Americans. It wasn’t a sign of bravery to walk out, it was shallowness and those that really do believe in God rather than claim to, realize that intolerance and slight of others beliefs is not what God intended. Jeff Probst already said that it wasn’t a religious ceremony and for those that don’t understand it, is not the Buddhist way to force their religion on others, only Christianity does this, which is where Miss Christian radio got confused.
September 23rd, 2007 at 9:30 amI think it’s funny for people to assume that the younger cast members (a) have no plan, (b) have no strategy, and (c) have made a wrong decision in voting off Chicken. Maybe the ones who voted to boot Chicken had good reasons that the rest of us aren’t privy to. Just remember, the cameras were rolling for 39 days, 24/7 — and all we see are 13 1-hour episodes…..
